Sitting Magistrate

no

less than seventy-seven thousand

two hundred and fifty (77,250)

persons

have

stood

before the

Sitting Magistrate,

as

and

two-thirds

of

which number

must have

been

arraigned

before myself,

I filled the

Sitting Magistrate's Chair during

four

days

out of the working

over

the

entire period

supported by the fact, that the

whole of this mass of adjudication,

from first to

last,

has

been

governed

by the

writ of Certiorari, and that

in

no

one

instance

has

my

decision been

reversed

upon appeal.

Secondly.

Upon

the grounds

of distinction between the

Assistant Magistrate

and

the

Chief

Magistrate's

Office

is

undeniably

merely departmental. Their Commissions

are identical, and they

are

equally

enable

to

one

and

the

same

duties.

Thus, I

must have

either

done

an

enormous

amount

of wrong

or

have

competently discharged

my

duties.

That

I

may fairly lay

claim

to

the

latter

result is

supported

by the

Court of Appeal.

The Chief Magistrate is, ex

officio,

the Chairman of the Court of Petty

Sessions, but the

Junior Magistrate,

even

in that office, has

concurrent

jurisdiction

with him,
